The Best Pink Dahlia Varieties
Can you ever really have too many pink dahlias in your garden? Nope! There’s just something about pink flowers – soft blush or bright fuschia. I love them all.
That being said, I want to highlight five pink dahlias that are some of my favorites. These dahlias are reliable, and beautiful, and will bring more much-needed pink to your garden. Yes, the world just needs more pink flowers.
1. Southern Belle Dahlia
Southern Belle is a stunning waterlily-type dahlia with soft, layered petals that gently open like a waterlily. It's a gorgeous mid-pink with a subtle hint of yellow inside the petals. I discovered Southern Belle a few years ago, and I grow more and more of it every year. This lovely dahlia sends out loads of blooms all summer long. She’s underappreciated in the dahlia world in my opinion. I love this one so so much.
2. Linda’s Baby Dahlia
Linda’s Baby is a soft, sherbet-pink dahlia mixed with peachy tones. It’s a hard-working, beautiful variety with sturdy stems, perfect for cutting or arranging or admiring at golden hour while you wander the garden. Linda’s Baby is one of my top dahlias for cut flower production because the color goes with everything (and she cranks out blooms!). If you’re looking for a go-to peachy pink dahlia, Linda’s Baby is a solid choice.
3. Pink Sylvia Dahlia
Pink Sylvia is a cheerful pink dahlia with soft white edging that develops as the flowers mature, creating a lovely, almost two-toned effect. Pink Sylvia produced stems well into mid-October, proving its longevity and reliability. Whether you're enjoying it in your garden beds or cutting it for a bouquet, this dahlia will bring bright pink beauty all season long.
4. Cafe au Lait
Cafe au Lait is a blush-colored dahlia with a soft, almost-shaggy form that’s just breathtaking. It took me years to finally decide to grow this one – I didn’t believe the hype – and now I can’t believe I waited so long. Last summer I witnessed a friend gasp when she saw it for the first time. It’s that pretty. The subtle pink tones and ruffly petals of Cafe Au Lait are captivating. Does she last long in a vase? No. But that’s not what this dahlia is really about. Grow her and you’ll see what I mean.
5. Caitlin’s Joy
Caitlin’s Joy is one of my top 3 dahlias on the flower farm. This raspberry variety is abundant, sturdy, and beautiful throughout the season. I love how it blooms reliably all season, offering plenty of gorgeous flowers to work with. When I hear the expression “workhorse dahlia” this variety is the first to come to mind. We cut buckets and buckets (and buckets) of Caitlin’s Joy last summer. She’s the real deal.
No matter which of these pink dahlias you choose, you just can’t go wrong. I will continue to grow these five fantastic varieties every year. Whether you’re creating bouquets or simply enjoying them in the garden, these pink beauties won’t disappoint.
